Steve, that GTE/Iriscan item is one of the more interesting things I've read about the biometric market. A real competitor.

Here's what I find hopeful about the announcement: (1) GTE finds this area important for the very same reasons we do. That's a certain amount of validation that there is a big market out there, which has always been the biggest unknown in my equations for the future. (2) Rather than take IDX on in fingerscanning, they're going with a retinal scan. The competition is between getting your finger measured or your eye measured. Are they giving us the finger . . . market? Possibly IDX was approached by GTE as a potential first choice (pure speculation), but Fowler already had better deals in the works.

Here is what is obviously worrisome: We have a major league competitor who has placed a bet on technology IDX doesn't control. We have to hope that people are more comfortable with finger scans than eye scans. But don't tell me that there isn't going to be a lot on biometrics happening in E-Commerce. I think we just found out IDX isn't crazy to dream these dreams.

One more thought, on Morpho/Mexico. This is just the kind of news that will not move the stock. One small deal, revenues measured at perhaps two cents per share, and just the faintest hint of future business to come. Not the kind of thing to pin your hopes on, and get mad about later. Ordinary stuff.
