I watched a number of the playoff games last year. I'd say hockey is where football was in the 70s, when a blitzing linebacker routinely could crush a quarterback into the turf even a full second or two after the QB had released the ball, so long as the rusher had plenty of momentum when the ball was thrown. A QB rushing with the ball was fair game to be crushed by lots of people in a huge pile on up field.

Hockey will probably not try to clean itself up unless they start to lose money over the current violent setup.

I used to watch only the Olympics hockey, it was so much cleaner. But it's basically the same now, too.
