Justice Department labels Microsoft claim 'misleading' msnbc.com
Just for chuckles, I had to check out MSNBC, and I wasn't disappointed.
But Microsoft spokesman Greg Shaw said that this interpretation of the message is simply not correct. Instead, he said Microsoft made it clear to the Justice Department before signing the decree that it would bundle the products. Furthermore, he said Microsoft made its plans to integrate Web browsing capabilities into all of its products clear to the world in its Dec. 1995 "Normandy Day" announcement of a new, company-wide focus on the Internet.
So, there's going to be browser capability in Microsoft Dogs? Or is that bowser capability? What do Barney and Bob have to say about this? And now, Dec. 7, 1995, a day that will live in infamy, is "Normandy Day"? Let us now mix famous metaphors.
The Justice Department also said that Microsoft is trying to slow down the legal process, by asking for a lengthy "discovery" process, so that it can continue the prohibited bundling. Shaw denied this, too, saying Microsoft has asked that the court immediately dismiss the government action.
Sure, dismissing the action would speed up the legal process. So would disbanding the antitrust division, or repealing the Sherman act, or declaring Microsoft an arm of Major League Baseball. Let it never be said that Microsoft press guys have any shame.
Cheers, Dan.
P.S. Dermot, beats me where it comes from. Discovery? Leaks? Subpoena? Maybe they got backup tapes. I'm sure there will be entertaining explanations for it all, I'm eagerly awaiting the next Fred Moody piece. |
