He's right. How the US developed to be what it is. Once Americans discovered themselves as a breed apart from Europe they went their own way.
Europe resented that a lot. The huddled masses of Ellis Islands were (for the Europeans) the bottom of the barrel. We are dumping our unwanted, unwashed uneducated at the US shore.
As they got rich, the Europeans said: They have only money. They don't have culture. Americans got really pissed with that. Their rich people sponsored universities to prove culture is a matter of money only and they could o have culture too.
After ending WW I, the Boston aristocracy that had known Europe fighting there got enamoured with Europe. They thought it was good to be intellectuals and not the entrepreneurs the Americans were.
Then the Europeans made a big mistake. They started a war with 100 rifles, three tanks, 4 planes and 15 trucks.
The US entered the war producing 100 rifles per second, three tanks per hour, 40 planes per day and did not even bothered to count how many trucks they were making.
They bombed the countries they came from and had the others not being allied they would have flattened them too. The bombers aim was the cathedral, right at the market square, symbol of the place they -as huddled masses- came from. And for good measure A-bombed Japan just to make sure the Europeans would never ever would started a war again.
The Europeans kow towed to Americans ever since. The making of the US bred a race of people who, by the very reasons they came to be what they are, self confident loud arrogant lot.
Slowly the generation that made the US died out. The Americans who inherited the US started forgetting what had made and what took to be what they are. If you are undisputed leader of anything you start liking what you had become. You enjoy that position and pretty soon you start believing your own propaganda ending up thinking that what applies to others does not apply to you.
Then long after everything that substantiated your position is gone, you still think, act like you were still holding that leadership . But looking carefully the only thing that remains are the after effects of the US creation: the self confidence, loudness and arrogance.
The US is today in the position that Europe was when it was starting up...
What is wrong with that you may ask. I tell you what is wrong with that. When some outsider knows better what you really are than yourself do, you are going to be in trouble soon. |
