Look in a dictionary or an encyclopedia?--YES?? Nobody should have to tell you they are two different things. You know that cats and rats are different? And you certainly have access to encyclopedias and dictionarys and school texts??? Yes..outside of democracy there can be many republican political systems and values. And some of us would prefer rational systems which support human rights. "The thesis of a republic and a democracy is simply that the masses rule themselves and are not ruled by a dictator or king" NO. A (moral and rational) Republic says that the masses DO NOT rule themselves! That would be horrible wouldn't it?? The masses believe it is ok to butcher a woman because she makes noise walking in her shoes or some prick sees or claims to see her face when the wind blows her veil?? A Republic says that democracy has no ability to alter rights rationally decided. A Republic has set basic rights that override every whimsical or capricious flip out of reason and into "democracy". Get something straight and get it clear and understand it. Democracy has no values. It can burn you at the stake or it can burn Christians at the stake. It has no enduring or defensible values. It rides on majority opinion whether that be Kill Jews or kill Christians or kill Muslims--or take a break and burn a few witches alive. I wonder what that feels like??? We have the right to vote. That is a policy of Constitutional Rights. What rational people nowadays mean by democracy is the RIGHT TO VOTE. If it means more than that to you then please tell us why?? Because democracy can support a Jesus or a Hitler or a monkey--or any nitwit it chooses to support. It can murder a Socrates--and it can murder me or you... That is why the word matters. Because having the right to vote (in and of itself) merely harms humanity if there are no constraints. 80% of people are ignorant and backward. 20% are forward and responsible for social progress. If you did not know this then you need to do some reading. If 20% of the world turned their backs the rest would quickly be in the stone age. HELLO! You did not know this!!?????? You know how to butcher a pig, make an ashtray, make a pail of paint, refrigerate meat??? You night want to start with salt pork??? MY FRIEND. If there were no difference between a Republic and a DEMOCRACY, then you and I would be FORCED to worship supernatural things right now. We would be FORCED to sacrifice morals and reason in order to protect our children from insane barbarians such as are on this thread. Because you do not truly believe that your vote is a majority vote, do you??? We can drop the Constitution and you can meet with the KKK (or any group that dislikes you) and you can tell them that only their feelings and their majority vote matters.
