"And how do you see a constitutional republic differing from what we have now?"

I don't.

"And it was not democracy that killed Socrates. Socrates chose death, although he was wrongly accused, because he felt "the social contract" was so important he must obey the law."

It was democracy that created a travesty of justice and an immoral event. Such an ugly human sacrifice could not have occurred in a culture of law and human rights and freedoms. Ayn preferred the modern version of existence where greatness does not need to be sacrificed for majority rule. What do you prefer? Do you enjoy our legal system or would you rather Brummar and EEeek decide whether you live or die for being rational??

"Something Ayn Rand would have strongly rejected!"

Maybe try reading her books. When they tried to force Galt to give up his values, he refused...as Socrates did. He did not drink Hemlock...(they never asked him). But he did obey them.

Socrates was not (entirely) a fictional character so had not the luxury of a planned ending...
