Mind boggling.....
I contacted (e-mail & phone) my republican congress man:
1.) I asked where he stands with regards to the STOCK bill (insider trading); the guy who answered the phone asked me how the congressman should vote and I responded it would be a NO brainer.
Did he get it? I think he did
2.) Quoting the S&P downgrade I told my congressman that adding unrelated riders to the payroll tax cut bill is the perfect recipe to create (deliberately) gridlock; I think congress has now moved from little productive to counter productive
3.) I pointed out to my congressman that the constitutes in his district are not allowed to use wood burning stoves on certain days because of poor air quality - they actually would get fined. Everybody is pitching in to improve air quality in Bay area and San Joaquin Valley.
I asked my congressman why one of the riders of the bill relaxes pollution standards for large scale polluters (including mercury) while the small guy in his district is expected to play by the rules and follow clean air standards.

IMHO blocking the EPA emission standards is one of the most disgusting riders - it's like the Mafia paying off politicians to bend the rules to Mafia advantage.
Koch brothers et al just buy the politicians to protect their interest.

BTW:
Flight to Europe are more expensive because the Euros demand clean fuel for jets landing in Europe
