thought how lucky and wonderful he is to be born in this place

my grandparents thought so and they basically raised me

born in Europe, they immigrated and embraced America

even though they learned English, speaking and reading, they kept their heavy accents [which I loved - when I hear a Hungarian accent it still catches me in my throat]]

they loved voting, thought it was a privilege - studied the news papers every morning

and voting day was a huge event - we would get up early, had to get dressed up in our best - then be there when the voting booths opened

afterwards we would go out for breakfast - a very rare treat with them

and the stories they told me! - they felt it was their job to 'teach' me in everything, every aspect of life

what a pair and how I still miss them still
