This piece talks about rmbs, amat, coms etc ... "Shares of Applied Materials Inc. slid in after-market following the tech bellwether's fourth-quarter earnings release. The company reported a net income of 49 cents a share, excluding a one-time charge, beating the consensus estimate by 3 cents. The company reported sales of $1.28 billion, an increase of 48 percent from the previous year. UBS Securities analyst Mark Fitzgerald said Applied, which makes semiconductor-manufacturing equipment, had a good September quarter. But that doesn't hold for competitors, largely because of uncertainty over the economy in Asian countries. Rising interest rates and currency devaluations -- the twin problems driving that region's crisis -- are pressuring Applied Materials' chip-making customers.
