You are exactly right with your comments ... TSMC, Chatered, Tower ...
are just ASIC silicon foundries. These ASIC foundries offer IC processes
that have mid-performance FET's coupled with dense interconnect technology.
This type of process would be difficult for AMD to "port" their design
AND have anywhere near acceptable performance.

I have personally visited both TSMC and Chartered and I agree with your
comments on cost, quality and the fact that these two foundries are a
minimum of 1 full generation behind Intel in technology.
