I talked to the investor relations people at atmel a few weeks ago and they were extremely positive. It was after the stock fell when the CEO said something about not having as much forward visibilty. They said his comments were completely misunderstood and seemed to imply they would make earnings this quarter. You never know for sure when you talk to these investor relations folks, but I have found their tone can imply a lot. In fact, my intuition after talking to many different IR departments over the years has usually been right. The first time I tried calling an investor relations department was a few years ago when Pacificare (an HMO) fell from the mid 50s to the low 20s in about 2 weeks. It was during Hillary's health plan disaster. The IR guy told me that the drop was completely driven by the health care reform and that prospects looked great. I was skeptical, and did not buy. Well, it made it to the 90s and it may have even split. I can't remember. Anyway, I feel pretty good about this quarter. I may call them again to get a reading. Britt
