RE: What's Christmas? In our home its the feast day of The Nativity in the Flesh of Our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ. We actually dont celebrate it on the 25th of Dec, being old calendar Orthodox Christians, but on Jan 7th. We regard the 25th as more of a traditional secularized western holiday with gift giving in the spirit of Saint Nicholas of Myra. While I understand your angst against Christianity and the many atrocities commuted in the name of Christ (and share your condemnation of them) I could never deny my belief in the historical birth of Jesus Christ, and more specifically my belief that he was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of the Virgin Mary and that as such he is Emmanuel: God with us. As Christians we have no proof of his virgin birth, or his resurrection, or his second coming. Nevertheless, we BELIEVE. I was born into a pagan family but have embraced this belief since age 18 ----> 41 years. ps... and our traditional Christmas greeting is NOT Merry Christmas (not that there is anything wrong with that) but rather CHRIST IS BORN!
