i believe one should be prepared to walk away from properties owned in far away places
thailand is a far away place unless one's spouse AND kids are thai
the secondary market may not be liquid enough during bad times
or simply donate to thai-based charity as and when
i like hk-based real estate for its yield, property rights (vs officialdoms and including tenants), and low holding cost

having interest in an unfinished abode on koh samui is not an issue as the item is not on the balance sheet, and represents a 50% give-back of profit generated from same property - a residual from good times past
