Not sure if I would be so harsh regarding the American electorate.

I am more inclined to believe that our current situation is the result of stress failures due to unanticipated weaknesses that have developed in our system since our founding fathers created the blueprint.

It would have been impossible for the architects to have foreseen the eroding effects of greed constantly weighing on the system and finding voice thru a system of bought politicians, not subject to term limits.

A concept that would never occurred to them as being necessary in a time when few even wanted to serve.

Of course in those days, you didn't become wealthy by selling your vote and influence to a well heeled corporate donor.

And the means to correct the observed anomalies within our system is extremely difficult, as Constitutional change is a very high bar and will of course meet fierce opposition from the entrenched interests that are benefitting from the status quo.

And perhaps I am simply making your point about us having the government we deserve if we fail to fix these flaws that have evolved.

But I'm not sure that the statement that we have "created a political leadership" that has brought us to this point is accurate.

There is no question that the last decade has seen the US sink to a new low.

But I remain convinced that change is underway and have faith that the bastards, and we know who they are, will be turned away, and we can continue to lead the world as no one else has that capacity, even as flawed as we are.
