Actually, you need to understand that this is a ritual of the Republican Party.

They are the ones that resort to drawing lots in cornfields to determine who they want to be president.

Their power stems from the fact that the Republican nominee, whoever that winds up being, by default gets billions of dollars handed to them thru the various bribery committees, authorized by a Republican Supreme Court to guarantee that the gravy train from the middle class to the pigs runs uninterrupted.

The hope is that enough folks will see thru the billions in advertising to see they are being screwed and will elect folks who have their interests at heart, even if they are black.

That last part may be the hardest to overcome, in which case we will deserve what we get.
