My thinking on him has also been evolutionary. Romneycare is obviously a black mark. And he can frustrate you when he fails to go right or doesn't play the politics the way we want him to. But on the other hand, he has a skill set that is sorely lacking in government. He knows how to fix things, and how to get the most out of organizations.

He managed this state professionally and transparently. He combined several agencies to close a multibillion dollar budget gap and left office with a budget surplus, without raising taxes. And I don't remember his being involved in any scandals, patronage, vendettas or crony capitalism during his tenure.

On the important issues - like Iran, China, jobs, monetary policy, energy, budget, crisis management, etc. - I would trust Romney to provide intelligent leadership. And with a republican congress, he just might be able to reverse the Pelosi/Reid/Obama disaster.
