(Kitco News) - This week gold has been plagued by light volume and a lack of fresh news, says Janet Mirasola, managing director at R.J. O’Brien, and the next two days could be a continuation of risk aversion.

“The Shiny One (gold) has fallen further trading … below $1550 this morning as it suffers negative press and a general ‘de-risking’ with short term traders positioning themselves in front of the index rebalance selling that will take place in early January. Despite all of this the Shiny One may still be a place of safety especially in the New Year when those cash-rich nations look for bargains to boost their portfolios and give them currency protection,” she says. “Year-end will be a good time to join the ranks of ‘de-riskers’ and take stock of new investments that may hold some fundamental value for the longer term.”
