<<On social security, the 2% reduction in the payment is a miniscule amount and will be funded from the general fund>>>

That statement is totally misleading if not dishonest. The rate was decreased from 6.2 to 4.2% or almost a third of the wage earners portion! To suggest that a third of the amount sent in by wage earners is a "minuscule amount" is weird and completely false. That people are led to believe it is a minuscule amount is EXACTLY why our budget is hemorrhaging.

PLUS, and Krugman of all people should understand this well, it is the changing mindset that fuzzses SS with the general fund that is even more damaging to the health of the SS fund. Do you think this "minuscule amount" will be reinstated any time soon? So SS which was set up as a separate fund and could arguably be called separate monies, is now for all particle purposes deeply in trouble with the rest of the general fund. THIS, cannot be blamed on republicans- this is Obama's mistake.
