Hydrogen could be if they approved and built several nuclear plants next to Yucca Mountain and used the power to create and store hydrogen. Even solar could be used - ends the transmission line issue entirely.

Well, first you'd have to get rid of Harry Reid. But after that, the bureaucratic process would require 50 years or more. By then we'd all be running on fumes.
