I have already given the definition many times on this thread.

In physics we have this concept called, "action principle". It refers at first order to billiard balls bouncing around inside a box. If billiard balls are still, the energy inside the box is considered in ground state, or zero energy. Otherwise, if the balls are bouncing around inside, energetic. We don't seem to care much when the box is in the ground state. Nothing is happening. Boring.

In physics, we never care about what things are. We don't care about what composes a magnetic field. We only care about how fields work, or do work. Frankly, we haven't got a clue about what a magnetic field is. It's just some force in space. Action at a distant with no causal connection that we can identify. Maybe, there are arms of angels connecting things up. We don't care. Maybe there are virtual photons connecting things up. We don't care. We only care about how we can use the field to make money.
