Jay, I'm sure you mean well and that your comment is designed to suggest that everyone do an appropriate amount of DD; however, it is my opinion that you have to have some level of trust in the organization in which you are investing (otherwise why would you invest in it?). To suggest that we need to check "with Sharp to confirm they sent the lottery machines to Venez" is a bit much. The company has announced it in a news release and I am reasonably sure that if it were not true then Sharp may have made some sort of correction. If we constantly go the way you suggest we would be checking and chasing any number of potential issues and possible frauds. (I, for one, have never seen the actual contract with the Venezuelan government but I do not plan to their Ministry of Finance to confirm that one exists.) If the company appears forthright and they do not hype their stock, I prefer to grant them a reasonable amount of trust.
