Complete speculation on my part, but this is what caused subpar outdoor performance in first generation OLED's. It was only when Samsung integrated the touchscreen and the OLED that the display could even match LCD outdoor performance.

Just to expand a bit on this, one of things that we need to do for Mirasol is figure what flaws are inherent in the technology and what are simply a result of this being a first generation product. I bought the first Samsung OLED device (a MP3 player called the Clix) that was publicly available and it was completely unusable outdoors and colors were way oversaturated (even more than today's AMOLED's). OTOH, when I put pictures on both my original iPhone and my Clix, the people I polled preferred the display on the Clix.

The key was that the flaws of the OLED werent inherent. I am hoping that we get more positive reviews of the Kyobo, but if not, the key will be to find out if the problems are something that can be fixed in the near-term.
