Verizon's margins getting crashed.

Short-term hit for a long term gain. Assuming VZ is getting subscribers they would not otherwise get, a $400 subsidy to acquire an iPhone subscriber is worth it for the $1680 in minimum future revenue. Lucky for you, it doesn't take a math genius to understand that.
