Thanks Ann. I have not been following the candidates so I don't know what they are saying. I have been paying a little more attention since your post and Romney does seem to be edging a little ahead.

He says he wants to kill Obamacare which needs to be done. He also wants to reduce the size of government. But he does say he wants to "reform" Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid which makes me suspicious. Our governor in Tennessee "reformed" Medicare (called TennCare here) and what he did was just cut people from the programs whether they were sick or not. He even cut terminally ill people who absolutely needed the care. And he got away with it because of a loophole they found. I object to this wrong headed thinking because at the same time new departments like the $30 billion Dept. of Homeland Security is started and who knows what it's budget is now. And this new department seems to want to eliminate our basic constitutional freedoms in the name of security. Let's get rid of DHS and give it's job back to the seven or so other departments that were doing it before.

"Governor Romney's campaign website statements from 2012 mirror this stated need to address entitlement reform to fix the debt. He notes the repeal of Obamacare and the reform of Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security as fundamental to fixing the debt crisis. Governor Romney also states that he will place a hard cap on federal spending. However, he does not pledge to balance the budget but rather to place the country on a path to a balanced budget."
