<There's few things in life that are as awe inspiring as wandering around an aircraft carrier. Your imagination never does its' true size justice....>

One thing comes to mind. I had a few weeks on the Enterprise. I was attached to the admiral's staff and my billet was on a support ship of the BG. For reasons I will not get into I was a ships rider for a few weeks. My only order was stay low, if the boss comes around duck. I did not even have an abandon ship assignment and at G
Q drills I hid..

I had ample time to observe flight ops from the bridge wing. The thing that amazed me was the sound. Actually sound does not describe it. It was like my chest was a church bell and someone hit it with a sledge.

To this day it surprises me that I have never seen references to the sheer animal power of a carrier launching or retrieving a jet fighter.
