I think the dangers of fracking are greatly exaggerated. The environmental cost of fracking is most probably a lot lower than the environmental cost of a lot of other economic activities we take for granted. It is almost certainly far lower than the cost of old style (single vertical well) oil exploration and production. And it is certainly much lower than the environmental cost of coal mining and burning. Natural gas, the primary product of fracking, is a replacement for coal in power generation. I think environmentalists should support fracking.
