Thanks much for all your comments. Taking them into account and considering what would be a fair system without being overly time consuming for me, here’s how I’ll set the initial prices for 2012 Contest portfolio stocks:
A) For portfolios posted prior to the start of U.S. 2012 trading on Tuesday, 1/3/12, I’ll use the Friday, 12/30/11 closing prices. B) For portfolios submitted after the start of U.S. 2012 trading on Tuesday, 1/3/12, I’ll check the posting time. If the portfolio was posted prior to the start of trading the day it was posted, I’ll use the closing price of the prior day. If it was posted after the start of trading the day it was posted, I’ll use the closing price of the date that portfolio was posted. C) For portfolios submitted after the close of U.S. 2012 trading on Friday, 1/6/12 and prior to the Sunday, 1/8/12 Contest entry deadline, I’ll use the Friday, 1/6/12 closing prices. (In the case of the single portfolio, CHRIS08, where a portfolio change was made, I’ll use the closing price of the date the individual portfolio stocks were first posted.)
As of now, there are 34 portfolios entered in the 2012 Contest, with 22 posted prior to the start of U.S. 2012 trading on Tuesday, 1/3/12 and 12 after. (I’ll leave FORSTA’s portfolio in, despite it being an “April Fool’s” joke, as it’ll be interesting to see how a portfolio stacked with the first week’s big winners turns out. And with the new rules on initial stock pricing, there won’t be the foreknowledge advantage.)
After Sunday’s deadline, I’ll post all the Contest portfolios with initial prices. Please check your own portfolio for accuracy and let me know if I’ve made any errors (I’d be amazed if there were none).
Peace & good health, Bulba |
