How did you put up with those old CFL's. Low intensity, poor color, and lots of flickering as I recall. The newer lights last twice as long as the old ones, 5,000 hours VS 2,500.. Being made in China has nothing to do with this. We have them installed throughout an Air Force Base and the newer ones are much better. However the newer electronic CFL's do have more early failures due to a number of simiconductor failures. Over all the average lasts about twice as long. We just put a bunch in the O Club and two or three went out the first couple of months, no problems since.

LED's will soon replace CFL's. Also made in China I am afraid.
