write once, test once, run anywhere - Java

Nice idea, but wrong. Every JavaVM is different and many 100% Pure Java apps will not run correctly (or at all) on all JavaVMs.

for a developer you have to test on windows 3.1, windows 95, windows NT, Windows CE - and since i expect your eagerly awaiting your upgrade to windows 98 - test on windows 98.

True. Then you can run on 90% of all desktops.

applications such as Lotus e-suite component based written in java - windows not required.

Windows not required, but Windows will run the Java app faster than any other platform.

Java virtual machines already in most desktops via web browsers.

Windows is already on "most desktops". See above for problems with VMs.

enterprise vendors such as Oracle embedding Java not only in the client but in THE SERVER.

Which is great! Java apps are excellent for data entry/access apps, which is Oracle's business. Smart move by them. Which platform will run server-side OR client-side code the fastest? Windows NT.

Network computers.

Name a shipping Network Computer. OK, there aren't any.

Also, why would you want a computer that could only run Java apps, when you could get a Windows Terminal which would run Java apps and your company's huge investment in Windows applications?
