Koan, the dean of SI's liberal intelligentsia, sets the conservatives on X's View thread straight:

You really need to stop doing that right wingers. All you ever do is find excuses. There is something wrong with your thinking. I know you are smart enough, but you approach facts as a danger to your ideology, and so you systematically argue why the facts are wrong.

The reason there are so many liberal intellectuals, and almost no conservaitve ones, is very simple. The
liberal intellectuals are simply recounting the facts and reason of the day. They don't make anyting up and are not even particularly creative-lol. They just need to use google-lol.

Darwin saw evolution, Einstein saw relativity, and
Noam Chomsy saw the genetic basis for language, Russell and whithead overhauled math and Neils Bohr defined quantum mechanics; Nietzsche recounted the ancient greeks reason and Doestevsky was among the first existentialists.

And they were all liberals and pretty much agreed with each other because they all knew the facts, not just of their areas, but of the existence of the world. Just the facts e.g. the importance of democracy and individualis and freedom.

So all it takes is a good enough education to state the facts and you have an intellectual. Take the heavy hitters like Einstein, Bertrand Russell, Darwin, Nietzsche, Deostevsky, Alfred North Whitehead, Noam Chomsky and Niel Bohr. All they were doing is citing the facts of the day.

But the conservatives cannot embrace facts as they would conflict with their ideology (e.g. the need for gay marriage-gays are born that way!), so they have to think stuff up not only to refute the facts but make their mythical worlds pallatable to the modern world.

The icon of this fabricated approach to philosophy, was William F. Buckley, who spoke so slowly and haltingly you wanted to choke the words out of him, because he had to keep figuring out ways around the facts as he spoke.

You are wasting your life by fabirating your life rather than simply embracing it!
