Actually, I don't worry about MIS snooping, I worry about their competence. I don't think my company is a-typical, and if our MIS had to maintain a server and network with 99.99% availability, the company would go bust. The NC throws all the corporate eggs into a single basket--the ability of MIS to ensure 100% uptime on a network and collection of servers. No mistakes allowed. The PC is more 'flexible'. I think the studies showing NC costing less than PC do not include this cost. Call the difference 'insurance' against disaster in MIS. How many times do your network servers go down?
