Yes, Herm made some excellent points. I think anyone below 15 percent at this point should bail out, confer with the Tea Party wing of the party, and throw his entire support behind the most viable threat to Obama.
As of now, I only see Romney, Paul, and maybe Santorum in a possible three-way race for a while longer. The rest are history. If Santorum fails to finish first or second in South Carolina, he should withdraw as well.
It is becoming more clear that the race will come down to Romney and Paul. From a logical perspective, I know that the leftist media will crucify Paul for his unconfirmed reports of "racism" in the 90s, leaving only Romney left standing. Still, Paul has a strong following. He will be difficult to shake. He could decide to run as an independent, which would be a disaster for conservatives in November.
Would Romney reach out to Paul and offer him the VP position and a strong voice and hand in the demise of the Federal Reserve and IRS? I would accept Paul in any fiscal role, but he must be kept away from various foreign policies, selected social issues, and a say in illegal immigration.
Plus, it is probably better to consider a VP with the future in mind. A stronger and younger VP in his/her 40s or 50s who will grow into the role of a strong conservative presidential contender after eight years of President Romney.
I would love to see Michele Bachmann as the VP, as I have said before. She is my first choice for that role, but the leftist media would never allow it. |
