Conservatives alone can't win the election - the Repub candidate has to win over a majority of the Independents as well, in order to get the job done. Abortion is a very polarizing issue. That should be set on the backburner during the campaign in order to put a Repub in the WH. After that there will be plenty of opportunity to put the Prez's feet to the fire on those issues important to each group. However, winning the election becomes more difficult if different groups demand their pet issue deserves the most attention. Teamwork will win a victory for Repubs - not emphasizing those issues that divide the voting base.
