This is the kind of political experience that is not taught in high school or college. You learn by doing.

Although the final decision on the casting of vote for the President is made at the National Convention, the final decision on how your State Delegation will cast their vote is made by way of the process of getting those State National Delegates elected by the people who go to the local, district and State conventions------in that order.

I do think the Party Platform matters-------what is in the Party Platform determines the broad support of the voting public. At the local level----you can write a resolution and take it to the Resolutions Committee seeking their support.

If the local resolutions committee supports your resolution and brings it to the floor of that first meeting your resolution can get discussed; and, if approved by the voters present at the local meeting be moved to the next level of convention------whatever it is in your state.

Your resolution can be voted up or down and amended just as in a legislative body and taken to the next level of the convention system----local, district, state, and national--------at each level your resolution faces scrutiny and rewording until it is either approved or voted down.

E.G. President Reagan was elected by three main issues and the coalition of two main groups of the public----------Economic Conservatives and Social conservatives-----the backbone of the Republican Party.

The issues were strong defense-----Reagan's "Peace Through Strength", the failed economic problems that grew under President Carter with exorbitant interest rates, the social issues of President Reagan that he personally embraced and were represented by the mainstream pro-family movement of the Republican party and the nation.

Put simply
-------------"Defense, Economy and Social Issues"-----------within each of these are subcategories.

This is overly simplified----- when we have such issues as Obama's saying our Constitution is a rag----immigration run amuck----energy----and Sharia law being used to supplant our legal system and the foundations of America------and Obama's dividing America with his using class and /or race to create division in America.

One of the points you made is very important---------------participate and get to know your neighbors, you will find that most who participate share the same concerns you .
