Prevailing self interest, as in staying in power, where thier role as on demand purveyor of Fear Uncertainty & Doubt, would be lost to the international, leaving the international completely exposed in a matter of days.
In such case, the oil market price contrivance would collapse, all those hedge funds wiped out, along with another fallen mouthpiece whose utility would then be converted into a state opposite what international could tolerate, another lost bit, of geopolitical hegemony.
