IBM's XRL pilot plant will not produce any chips until late 1999, per their press release. First chips will be 0.18 micron, and progress to 0.15 micron. More important, it will showcase IBM's copper interconnectivity. The focus of the facility will be "... to perfect manufacturing techniques for IBM microprocessors, custom chips and other semiconductor "logic" devices. I interpret this to mean that it is not intended to be a full blown IC production facility. chips.ibm.com Most sources (like the recent Semtech conference) concede that DUV will be the production litho of choice for critical dimmensions down to 0.13 micron until at least year 2002. BTW, IBM will use synchrotron and not JMAR x-ray source. Tulvio
