"In the case of the age of the earth it follows naturally that there would be less "young earthers" for even a primitive tribesman or child can get the drift that the world is very very old ."

But that is what makes it so weird. This type of irrational person will sometimes admit, "Ok. I get that. Maybe the earth is BILLIONS instead of thousands of years old" but then they will still try to fit dinosaurs into the mythology of that same bible that gives a planetary history of less than 7000 years! They will still argue that Lot slept with his daughters and got them both pregnant and was thereafter loved and cherished by God, and that Peter brought Dorcas back from the dead and all this other nonsense. It is as though any of those stories that cannot be disproven by immediate evidence..thereby become reasonable or even certain in their minds? I understand how children can be socialized to believe without thinking; after all, every culture in the world gets socialized in one supernatural belief or another by family and community. But how do they remain like this--putting thinking and facts into the cart, and making belief the team of horses?? I mean, as a child you may wonder what it would be like to float on a cloud. But as an adult (and after a couple of grades of elementary education)...does a normal person still believe they can float on a cloud??
