I agree with most of what you outlined over the long term. Problem I have is the GOP when they had control did none of these things, deficits didn't matter, spent like drunken sailors, ownership society leveraged with debt, illegals coming from Mexico by the millions to do the jobs American's don't want to do, government payrolls on a local and state level ballooning due to housing/credit bubbles and defense expansion. Federal government grew from $1.9T to $3.2T under Bush's watch and we have actually created more private sector jobs since Obama has been president than we did under eight years under Bush. I don't have the number of how the local, state and federal government payroll grew under Bush and shrunk under Obama but that is another driver to expansion back then and malaise the past three years of deleveraging across the board..
