Jack,

Are you maybe assuming rationality amongst the IT set? <g> A couple of points
...a good portion of "IT" purchases are no longer made by IT. NT is simple enough to install, that many end users are doing their own selecting and installs...running their own servers. IS/IT isn't really in the picture. It reminds me of a lot of "appletalk" environments. These folks just install NT on a box, and plug into the company's backbone...instant server. Related: Many small companies feel that they can handle NT (just windows on steroids, right?), but not Novell. Many need NT anyway just because it is a capable applications server (and Novell is lousy at that). MS is a so-so file server while Novell is great. BUT, if you have to have one server only, app and file, it will probably be NT. NT is the VAX of the 90's.

Also, MANY larger companies have held back win 95. Now that NT 4.0 is out, they are beginning to install NT Workstation. It works sweetly with NT Server. NT Server sure has problems...but Novell servers do as well. I'm seeing IT loyalties to MS as well. Reminds of the old days: "...nobody ever gets fired for buying IBM." Nowadays: "...nobody ever gets fired for WAITING for MS." <g>

Anyway, Novell will have to execute perfectly to dig out of this one...

Pete
