regarding the VA ballot: if only Newt had failed to get on the ballot, I would agree with you. But Perry and Santorum failed too. That makes me think there must have been some kind of bait-and-switch in the rules, some high hurdle imposed at the last minute, so that those candidate who did enough to have got on the ballot last time found themselves rejected.
