The data are incomplete.
Gary asked, <<Do you, or anyone else out there, know where to get an accurate percentage breakdown of the causes of ED?>>
It is always interesting to see the faith that many people have in "the Science of Medicine." Please don't take this wrong Gary, your question is valid, but we (the medical profession) don't have an answer.
The number of men suffering from impotence that are unreported is just that, unreported. We can collect data, but where do we get this data? From insurance claims where the ICD-9 codes may not have been entered, to spare the patient the embarassment of the front desk checkout? From population surveys? The U.S. Census? No matter where you hear the figures or the breakdowns, realize that they are just guesses, NOBODY knows for sure!
Truth is many cases are mixed organic and psychogenic in the real world. And they don't walk in to the office with the chief complaint of impotence, it's always an add-on to the chief complaint (front desk embarrassment again, doesn't matter if the person at the front desk is male or female.)
So, this is what makes me excited about the MUSE/Viagra synergy from an investment perspective, I have had at least one patient a week report (previously present and unreported) new impotence in the past four weeks. Just wait til the production is ready and the MUSE "love boat" campaign kicks off. Don't even hint or believe that "the news is built in to the price" of this stock. There may be some disagreement among clinicians as to the "best" treatment but I don't think you will find one who will assert that we know the extent of the unreported prevalence or "market" yet for ED treatments.
Btw, I talked to one of these previously unreported patients about using MUSE vs. a pill if the duration was different, he indicated that he would be interested in duration of action as a defining element of his choice of treatment, well, actually his wife would be interested. He's got a consult to the urologist now.
