I put two unbroke mares on a trail ride from southern Saskatchewan to The Little Big Horn and on to Devil's Tower Wyoming. The scenery and smell of sage during the summer months is incredible in that part of the country. The Indian kids some direct descendants of Crazy Horse were swimming at the battle site and carried by the current down stream. You can just imagine what it was like that hot summer day when Custer made a few bad moves. Before the battle he decided to hunt buffalo and while galloping after the herd he aimed to shoot and shot his own horse out from under him.

Another time I was coming back from Minneapolis with a stud and pulled into Theodore National Park for a nap. At sun-up I unloaded the horse and had him tied to the trailer just as an actor portraying Teddy walked by stopped and said that is a fine looking specimen son. I said thank you sir as he stomped off to a lead a group on a hike with his little riding stick behind his back.
