All Apple is doing with this restriction is saying that if you directly profit from this free tool and platform that we have created, then we deserve our cut. Which seems entirely fair to me.

It seems legal to me, not even just technically legal, but something that probably should be legal as well, in other words not just some loophole or quirk of the law that shouldn't be there. But it doesn't seem reasonable.

Exactly how do you use the Kindle publishing tool and post free content in the Amazon bookstore, or use the tool to produce and distribute free content everywhere?

I don't know. I don't have a Kindle (or an I-Pad or I-Phone).
