Vista issues were clear from the getgo. Anyone who bought into that mess wasn't paying attention. Although it tends to fix things a bit to often for my liking, Win 7 addresses most Vista issues. With continuous human endeavour one has to expect the promotion and anti-promotion (Apple Ads) of a dud at some point in time.

Speaking of human endeavour, Kyobo good for ~2hrs of surfing over wifi (802.11b) at night (ie with automatic front lighting setting). Colours OK but screen does seem to be light just as much as an LCD. There is a 1" dark bezel all around the outside of the display. This houses very bright white LEDs. The light from these components is so bright that you can see it leaking out all around the outer metal band. The front glass is quite thick and appears to be used to transport the hidden led lighting over the display.

Usage during day inside house does not require front lighting, so it is likely that the unit could be used with a single daily charge. It is charging now. Have yet to take it outside but glare from front glass makes use of external halogen lighting rather useless. My only complaint with Mirasol display so far is that when one scrolls text slowly it moves up the page in a wavy manner. First time I've seen that anomally on a scrolling screen. Likely needs faster refresh rate to fix. When scrolling fast, no wave action is noticed. This might be why Qualcomm is first attacking the ereader market as those devices flip pages (ie complete screen refresh) and usually don't scroll.

Have yet to load any books as i couldn't figure out how to sign up with Kyobo. Will need my friends help there. Browser appears to be Opera although there no formal notification of such. Browsing through the Kyobo store their appears be very few english titles. Many of the functions of the product, English Text to Speech for example, are contained solely within eReader app. All epub titles appear to be free. I have yet to get an Micro SD card so I couldn't load any external epub titles but that appears to be an easily performed function. Have yet discover file manager nor PC syncing software but expect that functionality. Came with not external sofware. Will pick on an SD card today and try loading some English epub books from our library.

Unit is definitely locked down. Have yet to reload any software but noted the software update process (complete Android reload via update.zip) is noted as having a terminating process that deletes all unauthorized apps. That function likely needs to be hacked and I'm now wondering if the addition of that function wasn't the reason for the recent firmware update.

My unit was manufacturer by Foxlink (on box) on Nov 30th 2011. Firmware date is Dec 19th, 2011. Kyobo store pricing label dated Jan 13th, 2012.

The device should suffice for my needs but not exceptionally happy about battery issues. Hopefully it's just the front lighting and a night usage matter. Unit does not get hot but the plastic Kyobo labeled grey oval plate on back vibrates when the speakers are playing. It must be thin and likely removable. Access to the guts appears to be through small pin holes at the top and bottom of the unit. These remind me of the pin hole latches holding Sim cards within iPhones.

YouTube videos have long pauses while playing. It is waiting for more video data via wifi. Will hook up wireless G router later to see if faster wireless speed fixes this issue.

The resolution (pixel size) of the display is no where near the quality of LCD. Further miniturization will be needed to address that matter. Combining that need with getting more light in and out of the MEMS units is likely the Catch 22.
