gingrich is nowhere near the same class and stature of a politician as reagan....

for one thing reagan didn't have the ethical liabilities that gringrich has...sure he was divorced, but he his divorce from a hollywood another actor didn't have near the amount of tawdriness as gringrich..

reagan, like romney, was also a governor of a liberal state and he also, like romney, was once pro-choice....he obviously knew that in order to govern he had to moderate some of his positions to remain in office (look at his amnesty position)....he ran against a HIGHLY unpopular president and quite frankly, i'm not so sure were it not for the iran hostage crisis that dragged on and on, he would have been elected...he was a military hawk and that was a plus due to the hostage crisis and the economy was in tatters, he had the wind at his back in that respect....

he was also a 'happy warrior' and extremely affable unlike gingrich who comes across as indignant and pugnacious.....yeah, that works for the right wing and he routinely throws out 'red meat' for the crowd, iow, preaching to choir....

you have to get out of the right wing echo chamber to find out just how unlikeable the guy is
