Maurice - America is living through the experiment of someone with a classroom theory perspective attempting to place those theories toward public policy. Paul's philosophy is opposite that of Obama, but his ideological perspective is the same. Pure libertarianism doesn't allow room for a superpower military. After all, according to libertarians, if everyone is doing business with one another, we'll all live in nirvana, because we care so much about trading with one another. Sounds great in a classroom environment, but impractical in the real world.

Paul's foreign policy and view of the military is consumed by this mindset. Therefore, an American Navy projecting power and protecting the sea lanes around the world is not necessary. In fact, according to Paul it causes conflicts.

In regard to New Zealand and the power of its military to overcome a well orchestrated pirate attack. Take a good look at the three or four ships NZ has to protect the country. It's a joke. New Zealand taxpayers have been sucking off the American Navy's protection for decades, while simultaneously whining about nuclear powered submarines pulling into port for liberty. While the American Navy patrols the sea lanes protecting trade routes, New Zealand should be thankful for the protection and maybe offer a pint of beer at one of their pubs. Instead, the citizens live in fantasy land and pretend they don't need the protection.
