Hello Don Plant, In asking for an interpretion of your father's admonition, ," Son..never forget no matter what happens...wet birds don't fly at night." I am sorry to tell you this, but the actual statement is not quite correct. Birds do fly at night when they are migrating and they will fly through light rain. Although, I suspect a heavy storm may bring them down temporarily.

As evidence of this each year the National Audubon Society conducts a bird count of migrating birds using the full moon as a back light for their telescopes. They count the number of birds crossing the moon and compare them year to year. (Sadly, these numbers have been dropping due to loss of habitat in South America.)

Getting back to your saying, (Sages have a tendency to digress.. In fact, I once knew one sage back in the early 1800s who never could remember what he was talking about.) Anyway I hope that answers whatever we were talking about.
