The bitter attacks on the Catholic church puzzle me - comparing them to Nazis, etc.

I have no experience with the Catholic church beyond attending a wedding in one once. I do note that there are 573 Catholic hospitals in the US which treated 84.7 million patients in 2005. Very puzzling why such a wicked institution would found any hospitals at all.
