My first girlfriend was a neighbor of an old lady we visited about 20 miles from our home. I don't remember her name, but it was the year JFK ran against Nixon. We were playing on a see-saw and she asked me if I was Republican or Democrat. At 8 years old I didn't know what that meant, so she said she was Republican, then I said I was Democrat because maybe I thought Republican was already taken. <g>

Speaking of which, JFK's first televised debate with Nixon shows the power of making both a visual as well as audio impression. The radio audience gave the debate to Nixon, but the TV audience gave it to Kennedy. He made good use of his natural charm and came off smooth and confident whereas Nixon was ill-at-ease. I have to say that Thursday night showed me things I am glad I saw, rather than heard about or read, from the candidates.

As to Gingrich's open stance against Sharia (by saying he'd like to see a federal law that no US court can invoke it,) I can see the administration saying that he's ringing an alarm when no fire exists and creating an atmosphere of distrust against Muslim Americans that could lead to what Japanese Americans endured in WW2. They have 7 months to get their ammo ready for the fall contest for whomever the nominee is.

Will Gingrich be the one? I really can't tell yet. If SC's historical precedent holds, then he will. But, like they say in a mutual fund prospectus, "Past performance is no guarantee of future earnings."
