If Obama not fighting existing trends resulting in your opinion that he needs to "fight these policies harder", it would seem to me he remains a community organizer, sitting back, taking advantage of which way the political winds are blowing, blaming everyone else but himself for bad, and trying to take the credit for anything good that happens. It's his nature, he's not going to change. It's been three years of President Obama as leader of the greatest nation on earth, maybe it's time to measure his performance instead of continuing to make excuses?
